What is the participation council?
Every educational organisation with one or more schools has a legal right to co-determination. The Participation Council (MR) represents the interests of the pupils, parents, and staff of the school.
MR Haarlem College
The MR of Haarlem College consists of three sections, comprising six staff members, three parents, and three pupils. The members are elected by their respective constituencies, the staff members, parents, and pupils of the school, through official elections. The full MR meets on average five times per year to discuss the content and implementation of education at Haarlem College with the management team. In addition, the different sections can also meet separately.
Meetings
We consider good communication with our constituents to be very important. That's why you'll find the MR meeting dates* below. You can also find the meeting agendas and the current regulations at the bottom of this page. The annual plan and the minutes of the MR meetings can be requested by all parents, pupils and staff members of the school via the Mail. Naturally, you can also reach us with questions at this email address.
* The meeting dates are not yet known for the 2026/2027 school year.
Parental representation
Should you have any specific questions for the parents on the MR, please email oudergeledingMR@haarlemcollege.nl.
Starting points
As the Participation Council, we support the following principles:
Employee participation is an investment in the quality of education that we should not see as a legal obligation, but as support for everyone's pursuit of better education.
2. The school board governs and bears legal responsibility for its decisions. The Participation Council (MR)1 contributes ideas, monitors, and corrects where necessary. Both parties respect each other's position and allow each other the space to fulfil it.

Joint Participation Council
The Haarlem College is part of the Dunamare Onderwijsgroep foundation. The Dunamare Onderwijsgroep foundation consists of 24 schools, each with its own (medezeggenschapsraad) or participation council. In addition, there is also a joint participation council, the GMR. This is elected by the participation councils of the various schools. The GMR advises on and/or approves the policy of the Dunamare Executive Board.
