Duty of care

The duty of care is the school's obligation to ensure that every child receives an education that suits them and that they receive extra help when needed. The duty of care begins the moment a pupil is registered at the school. The school must either place the pupil itself or find another school for the pupil; the school board is responsible for this. If the pupil requires extra support, the school will first investigate whether it can provide the requested support. The school has six weeks for this, which can be extended by four weeks if necessary. The assistance of the collaborative partnership can be called upon.

Exceptions to the duty of care

There are some exceptions. For example, the school does not have a duty of care when it is full (or when a lottery must be held), or if the parents do not subscribe to the school's ethos.
