Preventing learning deficits
At Haarlem College, we structure our academic year and lesson times according to a specific setup. Most of the work is done at school. This means that a student will miss essential information to master the subject if they are absent. Of course, everyone can get sick or be absent for another valid reason. Together, we will then ensure that the student stays informed.
School attendance and truancy measures
At the bottom of this page, a flyer can be downloaded which explains how you can support your child in preventing truancy. The flyer also states what measures will be taken in case of truancy.
Attendance officer
Truancy is a different matter; naturally, we want to prevent this as much as possible. For this reason, the truancy officer is regularly at school. She holds conversations with pupils and parents to explain the consequences that absence can have. She also issues warnings and repeatedly draws up a formal report.
On the website of the Haarlem Municipality You can find more information about the Compulsory Education Act and the compulsory education officer.
School Arts
To prevent absence, the school doctor regularly visits the school. She talks to pupils about matters such as lifestyle and eating habits, with the aim of preventing pupils from falling ill due to an unhealthy lifestyle and having to miss lessons.
(Special) leave
In special circumstances, you can request leave for your child. On the Leerplein website You can find the reasons why leave may be granted by the school principal below. Using the leave request form below, you can apply for leave from your child's school section team leader. This must be requested at least eight weeks before the start of the leave.
